The neckline of the dress is the feature which will either complement your shape or extenuate the areas in which you are most uncomfortable with, it is just finding the right one for you. Each individual’s silhouette is also carried off with confidence, making all of these different styles of necklines open to everyone. However, as you read through the information provided there are certain styles which will complement our natural body shape differently from the wide range of neckline styles.

Sweet Heart

Sweet heart appears just like the top of a heart shape. A strapless sweetheart works well for the larger busted ladies accentuating the cleavage, and complementing the shape. However, straps can make the bust area appear bigger than what it is.

Straps work perfect for the smaller ladies, as it will volumise the chest area and provide support if you are more petite.

Off the shoulder

This style is ‘off the shoulders’, featuring either straight across or a sweetheart neckline. This dress suits most women from the smaller to medium busts who love to show off their shape, as this neckline exposes the neck and arms area.

However, if you are the larger busted lady this style of neckline will still work just be sure to have a strapless bra for support or go for the corset dress where no bra is needed.

Also, suiting the petite lady this style will give you a longer silhouette, accentuating the neck area.

Halter

Halter necklines are perfect for women with tall or broad shoulders, as they draw the eye to the center of the body. This shape adds curves and is incredibly flattering and suits most body shapes as the straps can be either thin or thick which will create different effects.

Petite ladies will suit the thinner straps, perfect for showing off your shape and the larger straps will help to add more curves.

For the larger ladies the thinner strap is most suitable, as this is softer in comparison to the thicker strap which will appear heavy and add more volume, which will make areas appear wider than what they are.

Scoop

This neckline displays the collarbone off beautifully and elongates a short or thick neck. Depending on its cut, this neckline will suit most body types.

A wide scooped neckline will flatter women with narrow shoulders, making them appear wider. It also compliments ladies with smaller busts making them appear bigger and adding more shape.

Ladies with larger busts and broad shoulders, the smaller scoop styles work perfectly to ensure the area is not accentuated , making it appear bigger than what it is .

Cowl

There are mainly two types of cowl necklines, one which is high cut and one which is low cut, both flattering most body shapes.

The neckline is a loose relaxed draping style and for those with larger busts this will help minimize the area, especially if you go for the cowl neck which is more open and elongating, narrowing the bust area.  For the smaller chested ladies, it will create volume by going for the cowl neck which is higher up with no opening.

Sabrina

This type of neckline creates a subtle 'heart' shape that contours across the bust. This style is a perfect choice for brides with a smaller bust who want more shape around the chest area, as this will make it appear wider, making this less suitable for the larger bust.

Also, complementing pear body shapes, this neckline will create a balance from the chest area to the hip area making them appear in proportion.

One Shoulder

This type of neckline complements the broader ladies as it will make the shoulder area appear smaller and closer together.

For the more petite ladies it will create volume to the chest area, adding more shape and providing support.

For the larger busted ladies this style can make the bust area appear bigger than what is it, and shortens the neck, making this style more suitable for ladies with longer necks to ensure that the neckline is accentuated and not made to appear smaller than what it is, as this will only make the face appear rounder.

V-Neck

This neckline descends in to a V shape, often the width can vary. It can be long and narrow, or plunge to the waist for a low cut. This style makes the shoulders appear wider making this suitable for petite ladies who want more shape.

For the larger ladies this can expose a lot of cleavage, the neckline is unsupportive and open and making the area appear larger, but ideal if this is the look you are going for.

Square

A Square neckline shows off the area of the collarbone which makes women appear longer and narrows the shoulders, making this neckline most suitable for the larger ladies.

Suiting women with the larger bust, it ensures that the area is covered and that no cleavage is revealed.

For women with smaller bust, shape can be lost and the area can be made to appear smaller than what it is.

High Neck

These necklines are a fitted high collar that ascends the neck area. This style suits tall ladies to extenuate their necklines. For small busts this will add more shape to the area.

Illusion (sheer)

The illusion neckline is made up of either tulle, net or lace, and is a semi-transparent panel which is attached to the bodice and goes from the bust to the collar. Often the illusion is continued to the back where the same effect is created with the panel going from the bottom of the shoulder blades to the shoulders. This provides some coverage around the bust area.

This is suitable for the petite ladies as this style provides curves and shape; however for the larger ladies this style can be heavy and swamp the neck area making it appear larger along with the bust area.

Queen Anne

The Queen Anne neckline is raised at the back, and partially open front and chest, appearing like a diamond shape.

This style suits petite ladies, as it elongates ad opens up the neckline. It also creates coverage for the cleavage making this style perfect for the larger bust.
